Nicholas Grimshaw born in Hove, in England, 1939
1959/62 - he studied at the Edinburgh College of Art
1962/65 - he trained at the Architectural Association School of Architecture, which he attended after winning a scholarship awarded by Arcuk (Architects' Registration of the United Kingdom); at the Architectural Association he won further scholarships which permitted him to travel to Sweden in 1963, and the United States in 1964
1965 - he obtained an honours diploma in Architecture and won a bronze medal awarded by the French Société d'Architectes Diplomés par le Gouvernement (Sadg), for one of the three best theses discussed at the Architectural Association
1967 - became a member of RIBA
1965/80 - he worked in partnership with Terence Farrell in London
1980 - he became senior partner of the firm Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners, leaving the partnership with Farrel
1988 - he became a Fellow of the Chartered Society of Designers
1989 - Royal Institute of British Architecture (RIBA) national award, for the Financial Times Print Works, London Docklands
1993 - he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Letters at South Bank University in London and a CBE (Commander of the British Empire)
1994 - International Terminal Waterloo, London, Building of the Year
1994 - he was elected Vice-Chairman of the Architectural Association, member of the Royal Academy and of the American Institute of Architects
1993/2000 - he received numerous awards including: RIBA Structural Steel Design Award, Civic Trust Award, British Construction Industry Award, Royal Fine Art Commission/Sunday Times Building of the Year Award.
