The winners of the Prix Européen d’Architecture Philippe Rotthier
School, Museums, Landscape, Sport & Wellness, Libraries, Theater, Residences,
The theme of the tenth edition of the triennial Philippe Rotthier award is the relationship of architecture to natural and urban landscapes, with a focus on works that blend into their surroundings and those that stand out in contrast with them.
The jury awarded the Grand Prix Philippe Rotthier for the best intervention in a built landscape to a cooking school designed by María Gonzalez and Juanjo López de la Cruz, founders of studio SOL89.
The winner of the Philippe Rotthier prize for the best intervention in a social landscape is Bruno Rollet Architecte's plan for a residential building in Le Candide a Vitry sur Seine, while the prize for best intervention in a natural landscape goes to a home and studio designed by architect Pascal Flammer in Balsthal, Switzerland.
The Special Prize from the Jury has been awarded to a project by FAREstudio of architect Riccardo Vannucci: the "Centre pour le Bien-être des Femmes" (women's welfare centre) in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
The judges also awarded 5 special mentions:
- the Danish Maritime Museum by BIG in Helsingør, Denmark,
- the Open-air Theatre by Atelier Kempe Thill in Rotterdam, the Netherlands,
- the Sea Library designed by Etat Arkitekter in Awashima, Japan,
- the cover over the archaeological ruins of the abbey of St Maurice (Switzerland) by architectural studio Savioz Fabrizzi architects,
- the drying hall (Office 117) designed by OFFICE Kersten Geers David Van Severen.
