The winners of the first next landmark floornature international contest have been announced

16-07-2012
The first NEXT LANDMARK international contest for new graduates who completed their studies in the new millennium organised by the Floornature architecture and design portal has concluded successfully. The winners and special mentions will be featured at the Next Landmark event to be held during the opening of the 13th Architecture Biennale in Venice.

Participation exceeded expectations, with 292 projects entered from all over the world, including numerous high quality proposals attesting to the brilliance of the world’s young architects. This is an important result for the competition held by Floornature to offer emerging new talents the international visibility they deserve, allowing the portal to explore the young architects’ creativity and publish the most interesting projects. The 2 winning projects and 4 special mentions, as well as a selection of the best 40 proposals, will be featured at the Next Landmark event to be held in Venice on August 28 during the opening of the 13th Architecture Biennale.

The contest, open to architects and designers who graduated after 2000, includes two categories: First Work for built projects and Research for unbuilt projects, ideas, reflections and graduating theses. The projects selected by the international panel of judges - 1 winner and 2 special mentions in each category - are very different from one another in terms of idiom and geographic origin, and provide an original interpretation of the contest guidelines through research and implementations combining innovative use of building materials and techniques with originality and a focus on sustainability. An international panel of judges including Frits Van Dongen, Gianluca Peluffo, Graziano Verdi, Luca Molinari, Mariano Diotto, Nicola Leonardi, e Paolo Schianchi carefully analysed the 40 finalists selected by Floornature’s editorial staff and announced the following winners:

>Kevin Erickson, Winner in the First Work category

>Elisa Minari, Winner in the Research category

In order to offer an opportunity for greater international visibility, Floornature also offers a “social” prize: from July 16 on, registered Floornature users may assign a like to their favourite project, offering an additional designer or architect an opportunity to appear at the awards ceremony event. Vote for your favourite among the 40 best proposals selected by the international panel of judges at contest.floornature.com or on the architecture, design and design culture portal www.floornature.com.

Floornature Chairman Graziano Verdi will open the awards ceremony of the first NEXT LANDMARK contest, to be held during the opening of the 13th Architecture Biennale in Venice. On August 28 the winners and special mentions will appear along with the contest judges on a talk show to be held in the beautiful setting of a deconsecrated church in the centre of Venice, only minutes away from the Gardens of the Biennale.
