The Interlace is World Building of the Year 2015

The WAF Award 2015 was presented at the final evening of the World Architecture Festival at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore on November 6. The Interlace, “a vertical village”, is more than an ordinary skyscraper. Designed in Singapore by architectural practices OMA and Buro Ole Scheeren, it was named World Building of the Year 2015.
The Interlace suggests a different way of solving the problems involved in living in a tropical climate. Not isolated vertical towers, but a system of interconnected volumes that forms a network of social spaces interwoven with natural environment on multiple levels.
OMA/Buro Ole Scheeren’s project is the eighth building to receive the World Building of the Year award, concluding the cycle of the four World Architecture Festivals in Singapore, for the event will move to Berlin in 2016.
Other prizes included Landscape of the Year 2015, presented to Yanweizhou Park in China, designed by Turenscape International. The Future Project of the Year 2015 is Vancouver House in Canada, by BIG Bjarke Ingells Group. The Small Project of the Year is Lidingövallen, defined as a miniature stadium, designed by DinellJohansson. The Colour Prize, presented with AkzoNobel, went to the ONS Incek showroom in Turkey, designed by Yazgan Design Architecture. Fernando Guerra was named Architectural Photographer of the Year 2015 for his evocative shots of EPFL Quartier Nord, designed by Richter Dahl Rocha & Associés in Switzerland.
