tamassociati named Italian Architect of the Year

tamassociati has won lots of awards this year, from the Aga Khan Prize for Architecture presented for the studio’s design for Salam Center, a heart surgery centre built for the Italian NGO Emergency in Khartoum (Sudan) to the Curry Stone Design Prize, the Zumtobel Group Award 2014 for Port Sudan Paediatric Centre, also built for Emergency, to name only the most important international awards covered on the pages of Floornature. And now the architects of tamassociati have also been presented with Italy’s most important award, Italian Architect of the Year 2014, presented by the National Council of Architects, Planners, Landscape Architects and Conservation Workers at the annual Festa dell'Architetto.
The panel of judges, chaired by architect Mario Cucinella, emphasised the tamassociati’s ability "to emphasise the ethical dimension of the profession by using a rigorous approach and controlled language to come up with top quality architectural projects in Italy and abroad, above all in places characterised by extreme conditions as a result of war, famine and epidemics. Places where the studio’s projects offer concrete answers and fulfil their civic function in compliance with the principles of responsible, ethical design for the promotion of human rights and sustainable development.
