The centre designed by Open Architecture and opened at the end of July 2012 has won two prestigious prizes in China.

Open Architecture GEHUA YOUTH AND CULTURAL CENTER
Open Architecture, the studio founded by architect Li Hu and his wife Huang Wenjing, designed a multipurpose centre for children and teenagers in Beidaihe, Qinhuangdao, China.

The 2700 m2 centre responds to a number of different requirements with a theatre, café, creative workshop, recording studio and multimedia room in addition to service areas.
The key feature and idea behind the project is merging into its natural surroundings. The spaces designed by Open Architecture establish direct contact with the landscape thanks to big sliding glass doors.
The spaces are arranged around a central garden which is an ideal continuation of the landscape outside and a space usable for the centre?s activities, for the garden is separated from the theatre by sliding walls so that it can become either a stage or, as it is located on a slope, an auditorium for open-air shows and films.
