Wood,

An example of contemporary architecture for a shopping centre with a Nordic taste. A project designed by Tengbom Architects that starts from a historic building in which wood is a fundamental element.

Norra Kajen by Tengbom Architects

The good taste and practicality of Swedish design combine in this architectural project by Tengbom Architects.
Created in wood from a historic building, the Norra Kajen shopping centre is located on the shores of Lake Munksjön in the little town of Jönköping.

The buildings have been covered in shiny black granite, the upper floors are covered in cedar and there are large windows all around the buildings.
These elements create material and chromatic contrasts with the rough granite of the dock and the azobé wood of the jetties. The green roof is covered with plants that filter rainwater.
In general, the project has been designed so that the users feelin contact with the water, whether they are eating, shopping, resting or looking at the sculptures that surround the building, created specially by Lisa Atterström.
