MoMA exhibition A Japanese Constellation: Toyo Ito, SANAA, and Beyond

Starting on March 13 2016 MoMA in New York hill host an exhibition focusing on Japanese architecture, presenting the work of two winners of the Pritzker Prize, architect Toyo Ito and studio SANAA founded by Kazuyo Sejima and Ryue Nishizawa.
Starting with a vast overview of the work and career of architect Toyo Ito, the exhibition illustrates his influence on later generations of Japanese architects, comparing recent works by three generations of architects, including Kazuyo Sejima, Ryue Nishizawa, Sou Fujimoto, Akihisa Hirata, and Junya Ishigami.
Curator Pedro Gadanho, director of MAAT (Lisbon Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology), has chosen to present the early 21st century Japanese architectural projects that have had the greatest impact on the international architecture scene.
In contrast with the figure of the archistar, the Japanese example offers a panorama of architects both famous and unknown who share the same approach to key themes in architecture, including a strong regional identity built up by generations of architects.

The exhibition will also look at the role played by architecture today, increasingly limited by legal, practical and economic considerations in everyday practice.
