The Nuovo Teatro, built in Triscina di Selinunte, opened in the summer of 2016 and was dedicated to famous Italian actors Franco Franchi and Ciccio Ingrassia. The project was carried out by architects Marcello Maltese and Maurizio Oddo, who also won the competition for ideas for the adjacent areas back in 1999.

The Nuovo Teatro of Triscina di Selinunte was inaugurated on 12 August, and is dedicated to the famous Italian actors Franco Franchi and Ciccio Ingrassia. The project, carried out by architects Marcello Maltese and Maurizio Oddo, was co-founded by the Sicily Region and had to overcome several obstacles before it could be built and completed; the architects had won the competition for ideas in 1999, and were appointed to this project in 2006.
Inspired by classical tradition, the complex of the Nuovo Teatro takes advantage of the site topography and the existing slope, establishing a visual relationship with the natural landscape and, specifically, with the sea.
The architects chose materials and colours that would work in harmony with the surrounding environment. Warm colours were chosen for the cavea, which also boasts a green area with plants from the maquis shrubland. The stage and the northern and southern entrances are partially covered with wood, so as to create a contrast between the candid and regular geometry of volumes and structures. Backstage is perceived as an area enshrouded in wooden panels, conveying the idea of “now you see it, now you don’t”.
