Jennifer Siegal wins the arcVision Prize - Women and Architecture
The winner of the fourth arcVision Prize - Women and Architecture, the international award presented by Italcementi for architecture by women to underline women’s role on the world architecture scene, was announced on April 7 at the Teatro dell'Arte at Triennale di Milano. The jury, including women from the top levels of society and the economy as well as the world of architecture, unanimously selected American architect Jennifer Siegal as the winner.
In 1998 Siegal founded Office of Mobile Design, the name of which underlines her primary interest in research and development of prefabricated construction systems. Jennifer Siegal sees these as practical low-cost solutions for working in underprivileged areas and using a new form of industrial prefabrication to create efficient, agile buildings, in some cases true instances of dynamic architecture.
Honourable mentions were awarded to the other finalists in the competition: Pat Hanson (Canada), Elisa Valero Ramos (Spain) and Cazú Zegers (Chile), as well as a Special Prize for Gae Aulenti, in memory of the important role played by this prominent figure in twentieth-century Italian architectural culture.
