The famous German automobile maker’s museum and showroom designed by Coop Himmelb(l)au of Vienna has won the Dedalo Minosse International Prize for Commissioning a Building.

BMW WELT WINS THE DEDALO MINOSSE AWARD
BMW Welt, built near the BMW Group?s headquarters, contains a new vehicle delivery centre, a showroom, a technology and design laboratory and a special area for children and teenagers.
Following an international competition, the project was awarded to Coop Himmelb(l)au, an architects? cooperative based in Vienna founded by Wolf D. Prix, Helmut Swiczinsky and Michael Holzer.

The building?s technological complexity makes it an icon of speed, dynamism and elegance representing the ideal to which BMW?s cars aspire.

Awarded the Dedalo Minosse International Prize for Commissioning a Building, the project was built with a particular focus on the issues of sustainability and energy conservation. Its sophisticated roof contains a photovoltaic installation measuring about 6 thousand square metres.
