The new Opera Theatre which opened in Florence in December is only one of the projects included in a new Music and Cultural District designed by architectural studio ABDR, winners of the international competition.

In an international competition the new Music and Cultural District project in Florence was awarded to ABDR, an architectural practice founded by Arlotti, Beccu, Desideri and Raimondo.

On an urban scale, the new park not only adds to the city’s public spaces but provides the ideal link between the city made of stone and the greenery of the Cascine Park, underlining its importance as a new urban pole for music and cultural activities.

The project includes a series of terraces and outdoor spaces arranged along a pedestrian path, including the volumes of the auditorium and the seats.

The complex looks like a big foundation, a massive, imposing construction containing the two large music halls, the volume of the scenery tower and a dense network of indoor and outdoor pathways including ramps, terraces and spaces built entirely on a human scale.
The large foyer serving all the indoor spaces is accessed via the urban platform or, for visitors coming from Cascine Park, through the glass wall under the inclined volume of the large hall.
