Rudolf Steiner on exhibition at MART

The exhibition about Rudolf Steiner, curated by Mateo Kries and organised by Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein, is now open at MART, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Trento and Rovereto designed by architect Mario Botta and built in collaboration with engineer Giulio Andreolli.

Steiner had a great impact on contemporary culture in a number of areas, inspiring the work of numerous artists from Piet Mondrian to Wassily Kandinsky. His search to achieve harmony between man and nature soon took the form of architectural projects incorporating anthropomorphic elements and works of design in "animated" forms.

Starting with the early twentieth-century cultural and social movements that influenced his thinking, the exhibition goes on to look at Steiner?s applications in the fields of architecture, the Goetheanum project, design and other areas of culture, to conclude with a look at the influence of his thoughts on everyday life and contemporary society, for example in objects of design ranging from jewellery and furniture designed by Steiner himself to chairs designed by Henry Van de Velde and Frank Lloyd Wright. The exhibition concludes with a full-size reconstruction of the Farbkammer, therapeutic coloured rooms Steiner designed in 1913.
