MVRDV,

MVRDV designed the Netherlands’ Hola Holanda pavilion for Bogotà International Book Fair (FILBO Feria Internacional Libro Bogotá 2016): a modular installation that will be reused to create libraries for neighbourhoods in Bogotà.

The Netherlands was a guest country at the most recent edition of the Bogotà International Book Fair (FILBO Feria Internacional Libro Bogotá 2016), where MVRDV designed the Hola Holanda pavilion.
The installation designed by MVRDV is a little village built with an emphasis on reuse and recycling. The architects designed modular constructions distinguished by different colours and shapes which are easy to put together and “take apart” again. All the constructions are based on a single basic module: a wooden box.
More than 1000 boxes of different colours were used to build, inside the Hola Holanda pavilion, a bookshop, an auditorium for hosting events with writers and an exhibition space celebrating Dutch literature and culture (art, architecture, design, etc.) held in partnership with designer Irma Boom and the Dutch embassy in Colombia.
The architects of MVRDV manage to express in architecture and design the fair’s goal of promoting culture and knowledge of local and international writers. The modules offer an example of Dutch know-how combined with the ability of Colombian craftspeople, and after the event they were distributed in the libraries and social facilities in a number of neighbourhoods in Bogotà for reassembly and use in new ways.
