MoMA Young Architects Program 2015 Andrés Jaque Cosmo

The winner of the 16th Young Architects Program, an annual programme organised by MoMA in New York for young architects and architectural studios, is Andrés Jaque (Office for Political Innovation) for the COSMO project, completed and opened to the public at the end of June.

The architects competing in YAP had to present a plan for a temporary installation for MoMA PS1 offering seating, shade and water for the concerts and initiatives planned for the summer. The competition guidelines stated that the project had to address environmental issues and be built in compliance with the principles of sustainability and recycling of materials.

The COSMO project by Andrés Jaque is a mobile installation built with specially designed irrigation components. The installation also has other important functions, for COSMO filters and purifies 3000 litres of water, a process that takes four days per cycle. The project is actually a prototype which can be replicated anywhere in the world, intended to draw attention to the problem of the world's diminishing water resources.
