Design: a history, not THE history

Design,

A brilliant reinterpretation of the discipline, addressed through history, speaks of the present and lays firm foundations for definition of the term design.

Design: a history, not THE history When design and production became two interrelated disciplines supporting industry, at that time in history, a date which cannot be precisely identified but must have been somewhere around the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th, design was born. “Design. Una storia” (Design: A history) is a volume by Giuseppe Chigiotti which refuses to become a simple chronology of the birth of new objects and changes in their forms. The book presents an overall critical vision of the history of design, seen in relation to events in history, with the aim of drawing teachings from it which the discipline may use to discover what it means to design for industry today.
