Cottone + Indelicato Architects Walkway for the Valley of the Temples, Agrigento
March 13 saw the inauguration of a pedestrian walkway designed by Cottone + Indelicato Architects for the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento.
In October 2013 a group made up of Gregorio Indelicato and Mario Cottone_Cottone+Indelicato Architects, Joan Puigcorbe_Paas Arquitectura, Matteo Accardi, Cristiano Bilello, Fabrizio Giannola_ABGroup ingegneria and Sofia Montalbano won the design competition for a pedestrian walkway in the archaeological area of the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento.
The walkway links the Temple of Heracles and the Temple of Zeus, passing over the highway known as Via Passeggiata Archeologica (SS118). The architects proposed an architectural element that would fit into its context and offer an ideal visual reconstruction of what used to be the outer walls of the Greek city, which were interrupted by the construction of the highway.
The project by Cottone+Indelicato Architects combines tectonic and constructive simplicity with a bold, vibrant, luminous image that will permit this architectural element to dialogue with the constructions present on the site and the landscape of the archaeological park.
