Cubox, a construction in a nursery school in Lodi designed by architect Roberto Munari, looks as if it is made out of toy building blocks.

anuM Office, Cubox Lodi

The Cubox project by architect Roberto Munari for Girotondo nursery school in Lodi has two functions: an outdoor toilet and a place to store garden toys in winter.
Cubox consists of two volumes, a white one and a grey one: two parallelepipeds that fit together like toy building blocks.

The white volume follows the perimeter of the site, while the grey volume is rotated and extended to form a support for the gate at the entrance.
The polycarbonate and corten steel roof is supported by a metal structure which separates it from the two volumes.
The architect has created cuts in the walls around the perimeter which lighten up the volumes with etched glass, making them into architectural elements like the bench.
The orientation of the two volumes ensures easy perception of the architectural assembly.
