Alvar Aalto Second Nature Exhibition, Vitra Design Museum

Finnish architect Alvar Aalto and his works will be the focus at the Vitra Design Museum in partnership with the Alvar Aalto Museumin Finland, with an important retrospective dedicated to the architect from 27th September .
The title "Second Nature" refers to the architect’s intense, prolific activity from 1920 to 1970. Alvar Aalto’sdesigns created environments and objects inspired by natural forms and art, to create a "second nature" for modern man. Some of the designs on display are considered perfect examples of Alvar Aalto’s design activity, like the Vyborg Library, created between 1927 and 1935, or the Kulturzentrum Wolfsburg (1958-62). There are also numerous objects designed by the Finnish architect, such as furniture, glass and lights. Aalto did not neglect details in his architecture and, in 1935 founded Artek a company producing furniture and an exhibition space with his wife, Aino, and two partners.
