Afra and Tobia Scarpa architects 1959-1999. Tobia Scarpa architect 2000-2009 Published by Electa in Italian and English, edited by Roberto Masiero and Michela Maguolo with Evelina Bazzo, the volume "Afra and Tobia Scarpa architects 1959-1999. Tobia Scarpa architect 2000-2009" offers systematic, detailed documentation of a generous way of designing directed at everything around us, striving to improve our relationship with things and the world and to attain a form of beauty that is inspired by our relationship with the opportunities and materials available to us and our techniques, functions, needs and dreams.
The long list of works documenting Tobia Scarpa’s 50 year career, first with Afra Bianchin and alone after 1999 includes everything from houses to factories, from city districts to new buildings, restoration and design projects, from firedogs for fireplaces to weather vanes, from jewellery to golf clubs, from glass vases to wine labels and lots and lots of chairs. Fifty years of work to tell the story of a world crossing through Italian culture and recording its social and economic dynamics.
Afra and Tobia Scarpa received the Compasso d'oro award in 1970; they received an honourable mention for the same award in 1979; the Nerocon Merit Award in 1982; the Primer Premio Nacional de Diseno Otorgado in 1978; the Auszeichnung fur hohe Designqualitat in 1992; the Industrie Forum Design Hannover award in 1992 and the Compasso d’Oro for lifetime achievement in 2008.
